Ryder Cup 2035: Bolton's £70M Bid, Confirmed 2031 Venue & Future Hosts

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has publicly backed Hulton Park’s aspiration to host the Ryder Cup in 2035, announcing a substantial £70 million funding package. This investment is earmarked for enhancing the infrastructure surrounding a proposed new golf course in Bolton, signaling a serious intent to bring the prestigious golf tournament to the region.

Mayor Burnham stated his conviction in landing the event, with a formal bid expected next month. He also mentioned "promising conversations" with organizers, framing the bid as part of broader initiatives to stimulate the economy of the Greater Manchester area. The ambition has garnered support from European Ryder Cup star Tommy Fleetwood, who believes bringing the event to the North West of England would be "incredible." England last hosted the Ryder Cup in 2002 at The Belfry.

While Hulton Park has now shifted its focus to the 2035 edition, another English contender, Luton Hoo in the south, also expresses a strong desire to host the Ryder Cup. Its owner, Surinder Arora, highlights the venue's unique character, history, and Grade I Listed mansion as compelling reasons to bring the event to Bedfordshire.

Meanwhile, the Ryder Cup for 2031 has been officially confirmed to return to Spain, with matches between Europe and the USA scheduled to take place at Camiral (formerly PGA Catalunya) in Costa Brava, near Barcelona. This marks a return to Spanish soil 34 years after Valderrama hosted the event.

The Ryder Cup, first held in 1927, is a biennial golf competition alternating between venues in the United States and Europe, designed to give the home team a strategic advantage. European captain Luke Donald recently led his team to victory in Italy, reclaiming the trophy from the USA.

  Confirmed as the next European host, this former DP World Tour venue will see the Ryder Cup return to Spain, a country rich in golf heritage.

  A historic American athletic club established in 1860, this venue has hosted five US Opens and other significant tournaments, known for its challenging play.
